General Information:
James Madison University’s Libraries is seeking a part-time Media Specialist to join the Media Production and Makerspace Services (MPMS) department. MPMS oversees spaces (including a makerspace: https://www.lib.jmu.edu/makery/ and production studio: https://www.lib.jmu.edu/media-production/) that are used to collaborate with the JMU community to create, explore, instruct, and problem-solve using cutting-edge technologies, multimedia equipment, workshops, and events.
The Media Specialist would assist in the creation of media production projects that are used for instructional work throughout JMU. Media production projects include video, audio, still and motion graphics, 3D modeling, and photography.
This position would work individually and with a team to provide technical advice and assistance to patrons in studio spaces, providing support in the studios. This position will also work with Makerspace Instructors to design and provide workshops on audio, video, and/or studio production.

This is a part-time wage position with no benefits, working an average of 29 hours per week.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist MPMS staff in creation of media production projects, including directing, lighting, camerawork, editing, motion graphic creation, and post-production editing.
• Communicate with MPMS patrons to consult on available services, set up appointments, and provide project updates.
• Provide technical advice and assistance on services and equipment to faculty, staff, and students to support multimedia projects.
• Provide guidance and support to effectively apply policies and follow safety guidelines to ensure proper equipment is used by patrons and employees.
• Provide workshops on audio, video, and studio production for the JMU community.
• Assist in the supervision and training of MPMS student-employees under the direction of the full-time Media Specialist.
• Work as part of the MPMS team to maintain equipment and document work according to procedure.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to be flexible depending on the university and Libraries’ calendars. Hours may not be available when the university is closed or on breaks.
Qualifications:
• Demonstrated skills in the video production process, including camera operation, knowledge of different camera and lens types, proper recording techniques, lighting design, studio configuration, audio production, and post-production.
• Ability to troubleshoot both hardware and software.
• Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail, time management, and meeting deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to effectively work and collaborate with a variety of staff, faculty, and patrons as a member of a team.
• Articulated ability to help foster an equitable and welcoming work environment.
• Willingness to work days, evenings, and weekends.
Additional Considerations:
• Familiarity with graphic design and photography.
• Knowledge of 3D modeling (Tinkercad, Blender, Fusion, etc).
• Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) or similar software.
• Teaching/instruction skills, especially in media production.
