General Information:
JMU's Youth Programs department is looking for instructors to teach exciting, educational courses for our summer College for Kids Program! This program provides an enriching, educational, and fun experience for rising K - 8th grade students! It gives children the chance to expand their horizons by exploring a topic of interest. Children will work with experts (JMU staff/students, teachers, etc.) to discover talents they never knew they had, explore new ideas/fields of study, and develop a new passion for learning!
These positions begin around May 8th and end on June 12th. College for Kids is scheduled for June 8th - 12th. Our morning sessions run from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM (instructors stay for lunch with their students) and afternoon sessions run from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM each day. Ideally, we would love for our instructors to teach full days (both sessions) for the duration of the week.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Create engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans/activities
• Lead a classroom of 6-10 campers
• Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of campers
• Foster a positive and supportive classroom environment that encourages participation and exploration
• Serve as a reliable, supportive adult presence whom students feel comfortable approaching for guidance, help, or conflict resolution
Qualifications:
• Experience working with children (teaching, mentoring, camp counseling, or similar)
• Ability to manage a classroom effectively and handle behavioral challenges, address student needs, etc.
• Ability to maintain a calm, patient, and positive demeanor
• Clear and effective communication skills when interacting with campers, staff, and parents/guardians
• Ability to provide two different course ideas age-appropriate for attending campers
• Must pass a background check and professional reference checks

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.
This is a part-time wage position working up to an average of 29 hours per week over the course of a calendar year with no benefits.
