General Information:

The Office of Student Life at James Madison University is accepting applications for a Fiscal Technician. The Fiscal Technician will provide financial management and office support to the department, which includes professional staff, Graduate Assistants, and undergraduate student employees. This position will work alongside another Fiscal Technician and reports to the Fiscal Manager for Student Life.

The primary purpose of this Fiscal Technician position is to provide fiscal support and guidance to the Front End Budgeted (FEB) student organizations. This position will have consistent interaction with students to assist them with developing and maintaining their organization's budgets, and to assist with the logistics of their organization's programming. A desire to work closely with students while providing quality administrative support is vital to this position.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties include:

  • Providing excellent customer service to all students and staff while representing Student Life with a positive attitude, patience, and integrity.
    Providing financial support and guidance to all Front-End Budgeted (FEB) student organizations. This will include weekly meetings with students, assisting with programming logistics, and budget maintenance and development.
  • Performing monthly departmental reconciliations by running reports, entering data into spreadsheets, and then analyzing that data for accuracy.
  • SPCC reconciliation for multiple individuals within the department. This will require working within the eVA system to generate confirming orders when needed.
  • Processing payments for various expenditures which will include purchasing goods for Student Life and FEB groups, completing Accounting Vouchers and ATVs for contracts, and completing Local and State Funds Transfers as applicable.
  • All duties will be completed according to the JMU financial procedures manual with accuracy and in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications include:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly in Excel
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • The ability to multi-task while staying organized
  • Knowledge and experience in budget management and fiscal support
  • Excellent customer service skills

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Proficiency in PeopleSoft
  • Experience working with students
