General Information:
JMU's Facilities Management is currently seeking a construction engineer to coordinate the construction and renovation of major maintenance and non-capital outlay projects. This can include the preparation of drawings, specification, project cost estimates, inspections and contract administration.
Duties and Responsibilities:
CONSTRUCTION/RENOVATION PROJECT MANAGEMENT
•Developing documents required to modify building components by analyzing the desired environment and design or reviewing the development of construction document
•Verifying the installation of building systems and correcting problems to ensure operation by evaluating the work performed by the university and contract personnel
•Reviewing and providing comment on scopes of service and other documentation by evaluating compliance with Facilities Management standards and building code requirement
•Administering projects and contracts to ensure conformance. Coordinates contractors university personnel by monitoring progress, reviewing change orders/invoices, authorizing payments and monitoring project scheduling and cost
•Resolving problems and coordinating resolutions with contractors and personnel involved
•Coordinating scheduling, approving material proposals and submitting of documents
CONSTRUCTION INSPECTOR
•Verifying proper installation/modification of building systems and components by inspecting, reviewing and evaluating work performed by University and contract personnel
•Correcting operational problems with general construction
•Reviewing and inspecting of all work associated with the Annual Permit Policy
CAPITAL OUTLAY/CONSTRUCTION PROJECT INSPECTIONS
•Reviewing contract documents, plans, specifications and related material prepared by non-university architects/engineers
•Inspecting and making recommendations for capital outlay construction by performing site visits and coordination inspections
•Assisting with resolution of construction documents and site situations
Qualifications:
•Understanding of construction concepts
•Thorough knowledge of Virginia State Building Code
•Knowledge of the state mandated Annual Permit Policy
•Ability to manage multiple tasks
•Ability to write detailed specifications
•Ability to design and read construction drawings
•Ability to accommodate any necessary temporary shift demands
•Valid driver's license
