About JMU:

Located in the heart of Virginia’s beautiful Shenandoah Valley, the city of Harrisonburg is approximately 120 miles from Washington, D.C. and Richmond, VA. With a population of just over 53,000, Harrisonburg is one of the most diverse communities in the Commonwealth of Virginia. JMU is a selective, public institution with a growing national reputation for offering experiences that lead to an outstanding education and inclusive environment for students, faculty and staff. The student body includes approximately 20,000 undergraduate and 1,900 graduate students, with over 1,000 full-time instructional faculty.

General Information:

The Center for Economic Education invites applications for the position of student assistant. Past student assistants have found this an attractive position, and for a number of years the position has come open only when the previous student assistant graduated or qualified for an attractive senior-year opportunity.
Students from a variety of majors have thrived in this job in the past, including: SMAD, education, accounting, economics and computer information systems.
The work location is off-campus at the Center for Economic Education, 220 University Boulevard, Harrisonburg. Most students find that access to a car is necessary for this job to work for them. (Walking, biking and bus transportation are also possible.)

Duties and Responsibilities:

The job is part-time, with flexible hours to suit the student assistant’s schedule; however, the most useful work hours are when the Center’s part-time administrative assistant is in the office. Most of the time, the assistant works directly with the associate director and administrative assistant. The duties involve basic office assistance, including:
• Preparing materials for the Center’s workshop series.
• Assisting with mailings and management of the Center’s teacher outreach.
• Assisting the center staff with teaching and research support.

Qualifications:

Students will work between 10-20 hours per week.

Additional Posting Information:

Conditions of Employment:

Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).

Students must have a 2.0 or better cumulative GPA.

E-Verify Notice: After accepting employment, new hires are required to complete an I-9 form and present documentation of their identity and eligibility to work in the United States. James Madison University uses the E-Verify system to confirm identity and work authorization.
