General Information:

James Madison University, a Division 1 Member of the NCAA, is seeking an Associate Director of Events and Game Operations. This position is full-time and reports to the Director of Athletics Facilities & Events. The Associate Director of Events and Game Operations will lead wage staff and student interns while working cooperatively with internal units and service providers to direct and execute Game Operations for all sports, as well as special events occurring within athletic facilities. This position is ultimately responsible for the organization, planning, implementation, production, and event administration of intercollegiate athletics and special events. Position must have a service attitude and approach.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Game Manager for Men’s Basketball, assisting with Football game management and other assigned sports, or appoint wage or student designee, for assigned home Athletic events in coordination with Director of Events and Game Operations. Performing such duties as: enforce health, fire, safety and other facility regulations; manage crowd control; and, ensure safety of game personnel such as teams, coaches, officials.
  • Serve as the Event Manager, or appoint wage or student designee, and provide oversight of planning logistics and site preparedness for assigned hosted special events occurring in Athletics Venues; will work collaboratively with Facilities & Events staff on all aspects of Event
  • Planning and Execution. Execute contracts, estimates, and closing sheets for all assigned special events.
  • Oversight of planning logistics and site preparedness for assigned home athletic events and hosted special events. Develop, maintain, & distribute game operations plans with respect to each sport and venue. Directs staff or coordinates resources in support of assigned events hosted in facilities including planning, resource allocation, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Assist with the scheduling of all athletic facilities for events and activities including providing direction for data entry by wage and student staff
  • Coordinate and serve as liaison with on-campus departments (i.e. Parking Services, Public Safety, Facilities Management, Concessions,
  • Special Event Catering, Risk Management) and contracted services (Health Services provider, Communications vendor) to ensure appropriate support services for events.
  • Oversight of Parking operations for Athletic Events, specifically Football but not limited to any outside event held in Athletic Facilities.
  • Coordinate gameday shuttles with JMU Transportation and HDPT.
  • Liaison with RMC Events for assigned Event Staffing.
  • Serves as Co- Chair of the Game Day Operations Team (GDOT).
  • Assist in budget management for the Game Operations and support areas.
  • Summer Camp Coordinator for assigned Varsity Sport Programs.
  • Assist with bid submission, planning, and hosting of NCAA and conference post-season events. Serves as Tournament Manager for assigned post-season events.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications include:

  • Part time/student supervisory experience.
  • Experience hosting NCAA and Conference post-season events.
  • Ability to manage many projects at once, delegate duties when necessary, work independently or with a committee.
  • Possess effective communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays.


Additional Considerations:

  • Previous experience working within Intercollegiate Athletics event management.
  • Experience scheduling athletic facilities and using facilities scheduling software.
