General Information:

The teachers will work with other staff members to provide an optimal learning environment for young children. These positions will be responsible for ensuring the physical, social, cognitive and educational needs of young learners are met. Positions will work a total of 1500 hours and will not exceed the allotted amount. (Shifts are 7am-3pm or 9am-5:30pm.)

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and interact with children by supporting opportunities that promote educationally and developmentally stimulating learning activities.
  • Initiate interactions among children and communicate using a style that builds relationships and promotes teamwork.
  • Maintain working knowledge of and follow VDSS licensing standards for childcare at all times.
  • Maintain working knowledge of and follow NAEYC accreditation standards at all times.
  • Always be within sight and sound of children.
  • Promote the safety and security of all children at all times.
  • Support and carry out/implement the program policies to ensure a high level of safety and service.
  • Demonstrate ability to anticipate the needs of children and parents.
  • Interact professionally and respectfully with parents.
  • Participate in meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Ensure assigned classroom or area is properly cleared and cleaned up at the end of the program per VDSS standards.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Must meet the requirements to be a lead teacher as approved by the governing State agency
  • Child Development Associate credential (CDA) or equivalent
  • Direct experience caring for young children from birth to age 5
  • Basic knowledge of child development from birth to preschool

Additional Considerations:

  • Medical Authorization Training (MAT) Certification
  • First Aid and CPR Certification

Conditions of Employment:  

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.

This is a part-time wage position working up to an average of 29 hours per week over the course of a calendar year with no benefits.
