About JMU:

 

 

General Information:

The Valley Scholars Program Student Assistant will carry out the daily needs of the Valley Scholars Program and provide office and program support for First-gen student services and Valley Scholars. Must be available to work a consistent schedule during First-Generation Programs’ hours of operation (Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:30pm). Occasional weekend hours may be needed to support university events. Shift lengths will be a minimum of three hours.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Create promotional materials for and communicate with constituents about events/workshops via Canva, social media, MS Teams, email, etc.
• Mentoring first-generation high school students in local schools and assist with program coverage in the Valley Scholars office
• Assist graduate assistant mentors in the implementation of workshops: attendance tracking,
materials preparation, setup, and breakdown, etc.
• Create and update resources in PowerPoint
• Create and maintain a social media presence for Valley Scholars
• Support office function by answering phones, and emails, assisting with walk-ins, etc.
• Assist supervisor with other duties as needed to support the Reddix Center, CSP, and
Valley Scholars
• Attend all department meetings and trainings as required

 

Qualifications:

• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Ability to take initiative and work well independently
• Ability to manage multiple priorities
• Detail-oriented
• Previous office support and/or customer service experience preferred but not required
• Must be Federal Work Study Eligible

 

Additional Posting Information:

Applicants are required to have had a valid license for at least two years

Applicants must be able to pass a background check upon accepting the position in accordance with university policies for youth program staff
