General Information:

The Women for Madison program housed within University Advancement at JMU is a diverse network of alumni, parents, students, faculty and friends of James Madison University who engage and inform women about the opportunities and needs of the university.
Women for Madison (WFM) is looking for a highly motivated student with strong knowledge and understanding of the digital media landscape, including various social media platforms. WFM is currently focused on expanding our social media communication.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
• Assist with researching, writing, editing, proofreading and layout of print and electronic marketing and communications materials for both internal and external audiences.
• Update website with content, and news.
• Create social media postings • Research and/or write content for social media and W4M website regarding women who influence JMU.
• Assist with Women for Madison premier events marketing & communication plan and delivery.
• Assist with Circles and Rallies marketing and communication plan and delivery. (throughout the year)
• Research other Women for Madison like organizations in higher ed and their social media platforms. Share these best practices for like organizations with the team.
• Learn and implement JMU Communication & Marketing standards for social media and brand recognition.
• Create and implement strategies to grow social following.
• Create and implement consistent posting schedule for channels to increase visibility and relevancy amongst our followers
• Create a system and calendar of posts for the year and share this plan with supervisor.
• Monitor social channels and engage by liking and responding to comments.
• Develop strategies to obtain user-generated-content and share these with the team.
• Create storyboards for Instagram stories that give the takeover context and give audience direction: including graphics and a script.
• Attend and cover organizational events on Facebook and Instagram stories.
• Keep up with and potentially review and revise social page aesthetics with supervisor permission.
• Design filters for organizational events.
• Assist supervisor in implementing social strategies across all platforms that will increase engagement.
• Produce write-ups and proposals of new technologies and methodology for social media use.
• Maintain relationships with social media admins from departments and student organizations across campus and encourage them to use W4M social media resources.
• Create graphics that raise awareness of event or organizational mission.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor

 

Qualifications:

Qualifications
• Education: Undergraduate student at JMU
• Experience: Previous experience in social media preferred, can be personal experience.

Skills/Abilities
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Proficiency in technical writing and have editing skills.
• Knowledge of social media – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Snapchat, blogs, etc.
• Knowledge of how to create social media campaigns( not required but encouraged)
• Willingness to create and write social media content
• Have passion regarding social media and a desire to come up with fresh ideas on how to grow our online presence
• Ability to identify a target market and “speak” to prospects through social media
• Experience in proofreading and editing
• Ability to deal with uncertainty and work independently on projects as needed
• Ability to contribute individually, and participate in cross-functional teams
• Be a flexible team player, self-motivated and detail-oriented individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Work autonomously and have the ability to prioritize and work well under deadline.

 

Conditions of Employment:  

Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).

Students must have a 2.0 or better cumulative GPA.
