General Information:

The Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) at James Madison University is seeking a motivated and analytical student to assist in developing promotion of DEIAB strategic initiatives aligned with the university's DEIAB goals and strategic vision. The Student Assistant will support the assessment modeling and enhancement of plans, focusing on key performance indicators (KPIs) to advance institutional priorities. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to meaningful change by assisting in the evaluation of DEIAB programs, initiatives, and resources, and by designing efforts to foster an inclusive culture that attracts and retains diverse populations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Support Strategic Vision Development:
• Assist in composing a strategy documents.
• Help design the data path forward, co-determining research, analysis, and input on best practices for creating an inclusive campus environment.
• Contribute to strategic planning processes and supporting documentation requests.
Assist in Assessment and Evaluation:
• Help assessments and evaluations of diversity plans and programs in relation to the university's strategic goals and KPIs.

Collect, analyze, and interpret data related to DEIAB initiatives, focusing on three primary assessment categories:
1. Resources: Personnel, funds, and other resources dedicated to DEIAB pursuits.
2. Population Reached: To attract and retain diverse student and employee populations, including but not limited to students from underrepresented ethnic groups, first-generation college students, veterans, active-duty military, individuals with disabilities, and international students.
3. Culture and Environment: Intentionally focused to attract and retain diverse populations.
Data Management and Reporting:
• Compile and maintain records, reports, and data related to DEIAB initiatives and assessments.
• Assist in preparing presentations, reports, and updates for university stakeholders on progress towards meeting DEIAB-related KPIs.
Research and Best Practices:
• Conduct research on emerging trends, evidence-based strategies, and best practices in higher education DEIAB.
• Provide recommendations for improvements based on research findings and assessment results.

 

Qualifications:

Qualifications:
- Preference given to graduate students, preferably in a field related to higher education, public administration, social sciences, or a related discipline.
- Analytical skills with experience in data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience in report writing and presentation development.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and familiarity with data analysis tools (e.g., SPSS, Tableau, or similar software) is preferred.

 

Additional Posting Information:

This position is not to exceed 15 hours per week.

 

Conditions of Employment:  

Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).

Students must have a 2.0 or better cumulative GPA.
