General Information:

James Madison University, a Division I Member of the NCAA and Sun Belt Conference, is seeking a Softball Assistant Coach. The position is a full-time, 12-month position will a full comprehensive benefits package.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Coaching student-athletes in practices and games. Review game film in advance of competition to help devise game plan. Help prepare practice plans and game plans in advance of competition. Motivating student-athletes in order to achieve competitive success. Attending strength training sessions and other workouts with the team.

Support the head coach in organizing and scheduling practices, facilities, games and weight program. Supervise the care, maintenance and inventory of equipment. Work with the Head Equipment Manager to ensure equipment is ordered in a timely manner. Travel with the team, scout opponents, and other duties as assigned by the head coach.

Assist with the recruiting of quality student-athletes who meet admission requirements and who have the potential to graduate and other recruiting needs as assigned by the head coach. Review game film and other submissions from prospective student-athletes.

Encouraging player development by possessing a demonstrated commitment to high academic standards for student-athletes and their ability to succeed both academically and athletically is essential. Participate in individual meetings with student-athletes to help promote mental and physical development. Work with Student-Athlete Services to ensure that practices do not interfere with student-athlete class time

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Former softball coaching or softball playing experience
  • Experience working with individuals with diverse backgrounds
  • Bachelor’s Degree
