General Information:
The Department of English is accepting applications for a Public Relations and Marketing Specialist. This position will work with the English Academic Unit Head to develop marketing and public relations strategies both within and outside of JMU.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Social Media and Marketing:
* Generate, publish, and edit content that reflects the mission, values, and goals of the English Department
* Manage the English Department website, social media, and other campus communications
* Support the publicity and marketing of English Department events, courses, and programs across multiple platforms, both digital and print
* Collaborate with the College of Arts and Letters and JMU media partners
* Support and facilitate the English Student Ambassador Program Monitor and report on effectiveness of social media and marketing (using KPis)
Curriculum Support:
*Maintain database of course syllabi
*Assign advisors and advisees for majors and minors
Departmental Support:
* Screen and answer calls
* Greet walk-in visitors
* Assist with outreach to alumni and donors
* Help with special projects
* Assist the Awards Committee
* Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Ability to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines
* Basic knowledge of website content management
* Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel, Outlook, and TEAMS)
* Detail-oriented and creative approach to developing marketing and public relations plans
* Ability to work in a team
Additional Considerations:
* Knowledge of JMU systems, policies, and procedures
* Expertise with Cascade, Canva and Adobe Creative Cloud
* Experience with YouTube and other social media platforms
