General Information:

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics invites applications for a 10-month, promotable Lecturer position to begin in August 2025. This is a Renewable Term Appointment (RTA) that will be responsible for teaching general education statistics and mathematics classes. We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in statistics and experience implementing innovative, student-centered teaching practices.

Our engaged, collegial department is home to 55 full-time faculty in the areas of statistics, pure mathematics, applied mathematics, and mathematics education. Our programs are dedicated to providing meaningful learning experiences for majors and non-majors alike. We are a diverse and supportive faculty who value high-quality undergraduate education. We currently offer bachelor's degrees in Mathematics and Statistics, including a concentration in Data Science, and minors in Mathematics, Statistics, Computational Analytics, and Mathematics for Elementary & Middle Grades Teachers. Scholarship and service in a variety of forms is respected across all areas in the department. We have a strong history of supporting undergraduate research and outreach efforts, including hosting a NSF-funded REU program, a large annual undergraduate research conference (SUMS), and an outreach conference to encourage STEM interest among middle school girls (madiSTEM). The department also houses the Center for Statistical Consulting that provides research and scholarship support to faculty, staff, and students across the campus and to external groups.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will focus on high-quality, student-centered instruction in introductory statistics and mathematics courses. Teaching assignments will include courses in Statistical Literacy, Introductory Statistics, College Algebra, or Introductory Calculus. Teaching is the primary responsibility for this position. Secondary responsibilities include participating in service and scholarly activities, which may be related to student success, for example scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL), mentoring of undergraduate research, advising student organizations, or the development of new educational materials.

 

Qualifications:

Required qualifications:
● At least a Master’s degree in Statistics or Mathematics (or a related field with at least 18 hours of graduate Statistics or Mathematics coursework)
● Demonstrated excellence in teaching with a commitment to equitable and inclusive learning environments
● Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

Preferred qualifications:
● At least 18 hours of graduate coursework in statistics
● Experience implementing innovative, student-centered teaching practices
● Experience with scholarship or service related to student success
