General Information:
JMU's Office of Residence Life invites applications for a Design and Marketing Student Assistant who reports to the Social Media and Marketing Manager. The student position is responsible for creating and implementing visual resources and methods to our social media outlets, maintaining the look and image of JMU Residence Life, and ensuring University brand standards are met in all digital and printed materials.
This position is for the academic year, but there is an option to work over the summer as well or for just the summer.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The student position is responsible for creating and implementing visual resources and methods to our social media outlets, maintaining the look and image of JMU Residence Life, and ensuring University brand standards are met in all digital and printed materials.
Additional responsibilities:
- Assist with social media engagement, design, content creation, and ideation
- Assist with the creation and organization of a social media content calendar
- Identify marketing, engagement opportunities, and current trends within social media to implement within JMU ResLife
- Attend and perform real-time coverage of JMU ResLife events as needed
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously and manage time appropriately
- Communicate deadlines and expectations with the supervisor
- Additional duties as needed
Qualifications:
- Currently majoring in Marketing, Graphic Design, or SMAD is preferred
- A minimum GPA of 2.0 is required for JMU Student Employment
- Able to work 10-15 hours per week
- Willing to work flexible hours on some evenings/weekends for residence hall programming and JMU ResLife events
- Functional knowledge of Facebook, Instagram, Facebook Meta Business Suite, YouTube, Adobe, and Canva
- Functional knowledge or coursework in graphic design, media studies, business marketing, entrepreneurship, communications, and/or public relations
- Experience in photography/videography preferred (iMovie, Camtasia, etc.)
- Able to work well independently with minimal instruction, as well as collaboratively
- Able to meet deadlines and complete projects - demonstrated abilities in time management
- Demonstrated skills in creativity and strong writing ability - strategic thinker with a creative flair
- Reliable and dependable
- Able to learn, understand, and implement the JMU brand in all digital materials

Conditions of Employment:
Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).
Students must have a 2.0 or better cumulative GPA.
