General Information:
Facilities Management at JMU currently has an open position for a Carpenter Senior. This position ensures safety and security of JMU buildings and structures by providing quality work on a variety of structures using various materials and ensuring code compliance.
Duties and Responsibilities:
•Installing, repairing and replacing new and existing doors
•Installing and repairing various door closures, electronic locks and latches
•Constructing, fabricating, repairing and maintaining a variety of structures, displays, storage units among other items consisting of wood, plastic Corian, Lexan, laminates etc..
•Completing projects that require creative solutions, research and design
•Repairing anything made of wood such as desks, furniture and cabinets
•Erecting new walls and repairing of existing walls consistent with state and federal code regulations
•Consulting and assisting engineers, electricians, plumbers and utility shop on university wide projects
Qualifications:
•Extensive experience using electrical and manual power tools safely and effectively related to the carpentry trade
•Demonstrated ability to install fixtures and repair furniture
•Extensive knowledge of carpentry principles, practices and techniques
•Knowledge of building trades
•Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
•Ability to fulfill rotating on call responsibilities and accommodate any necessary temporary shift demands
