General Information:

James Madison University, a Division I Member of the NCAA and Sun Belt Conference, is seeking an Assistant Director of Sports Nutrition/Director of Football Nutrition. This position is a full time position with a comprehensive benefits package.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Autonomous management of nutrition services for JMU Football. This includes, but is not limited to individual and team education, medical nutrition therapy, DXA scans and body composition evaluation, hydration protocols, supplement review & management, team travel, coordination of and presence at team meals, and oversight of football fueling station within associated budget.
  • Autonomous nutrition care for other teams as assigned with emphasis on nutrition education and medical nutrition therapy services for those teams. Note: Teams may vary as departmental needs change.
  • Collaboration with sport coaches, strength and conditioning coaches, and athletic training staff to optimize student-athlete care.
  • Assist Director of Sports Nutrition with implementation of all-team education utilizing a variety of platforms, including social media initiatives, cooking classes/food demonstrations, grocery store tours, and development of print materials.
  • Assist Director of Sports Nutrition with departmental policy development.
  • Assist the Director of Sports Nutrition with mentoring and oversight of student volunteers, paid student workers, and dietetic interns.
  • Contribute to a team effort by welcoming new and different work requirements and explore new opportunities to enhance the services of the department.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant institutional, Sun Belt, and NCAA rules and regulations.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Credentialed as a Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN)
  • Bachelor's degree in Nutrition Sciences or related
  • Experience working with Football Performance Nutrition programs at the NCAA Division I level
  • Extensive knowledge of football as a sport and nutritional demands
  • Self-motivated individual who utilizes best practices with medical nutrition therapy
  • Strong public and interpersonal communicator

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree in Nutrition or related field
  • Experience managing student employees and volunteers
  • Experience managing and optimizing a sport-specific nutrition budget
  • Experience with developing and implementing sports nutrition protocols
  • Experience working with on-campus catering and off-campus vendors
