General Information:

James Madison University Procurement Services is accepting applications for a professional Buyer Senior. Salary will be dependent upon the qualifications of the successful applicant.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent customer service and communication in facilitating the purchase of goods and services, with an emphasis on information technology, that meet the needs of the university
  • Facilitate purchases according to applicable laws and policies/procedures
  • Negotiate term contracts and various agreements
  • Serve as vendor advocate to increase total vendor base of the university, which includes providing opportunity and education to small, woman and minority owned businesses
  • Conduct research to ensure appropriate knowledge of potential contracts, products, and vendors and provide advice, guidance and policy interpretation assistance to campus departments in regard to contracts and purchases.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Candidates must have a professional buyer certification or be able to obtain after hire
  • Be highly proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel with an excellent technical aptitude
  • Possess strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills in dealing with university customers, departmental staff and suppliers
  • Strong organizational and follow through skills with attention to detail
  • Project Management skills, resourcefulness, and adaptability to workload with ability to multi-task, plan, and organize work to achieve deadlines
  • Maintain confidentiality

Additional Considerations:

  • Technical writing experience and use of web based systems.
  • Have experience in data analysis/market research
  • Demonstrate professionalism at all times
  • Demonstrate ethical reasoning and be adaptable to change
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills to maintain a high functioning team dynamic
  • Strong negotiation skills to secure favorable terms, pricing, and conditions with suppliers while maintaining positive relationships
