General Information:

The PREP Assistant Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the planning, coordination and implementation of the Personal Responsibility Education Program, funded by the Family Youth Services Bureau. The PREP initiative is a collaborative effort that emphasizes principles of positive youth development and optimal health emphasizing both abstinence and contraception and addressing the adulthood preparation subjects of healthy relationships, parent-child communication, educational and career success, healthy life skills, and adolescent development in order to significantly reduce the number of teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections in the Harrisonburg, Rockingham and Page County area of Virginia. The PREP program is part of SexEdVA at the Institute for Innovation in Health and Human Services at JMU. To learn more about SexEdVA, visit www.sexedva.org.

This is an 11-month, full-time position with a recurring rest period of July 10th - August 9th.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Serve as a liaison to schools and community partners to coordinate and deliver adolescent health programming including, Get Real for middle school students and Safer Choices for high school students Mondays through Fridays in Harrisonburg City, Rockingham and Page County schools.

Assist the Direct Services Coordinator in reviewing program fidelity, ensure performance measure and attendance data is collected, and reports to the federal funder are complete, detailed, and submitted in a timely manner.

Facilitate monthly meetings and weekly communications with the SexEdVA Youth Ambassadors and support Ambassadors in planning and implementing an annual Teen Health Fair.

Manage PREP programming communications and engagement via social media, local community outreach events, and newsletters.

 

Qualifications:

• Knowledge of adolescent development and best practices in teen pregnancy prevention.
• Ability to collaborate with schools and community partners, engage in public speaking, compose reports and organize presentations.
• Ability to work with youth and facilitate youth programming, plan effective public health education programs, and implement health education programs.
• Must possess good oratory, organizational, administrative and interpersonal skills.
• General computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
