General Information:

Become a valuable part of the JMU community by assisting with caring for the Edith J. Carrier Arboretum, a lush forest sanctuary located on campus in the heart of the stunning Shenandoah Valley.

Located off University Blvd. across from E Hall and Jennings, the Arboretum is a great place to get active and have fun while learning about landscaping fundamentals.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties include weekly maintenance (weed eating, blowing, mowing), watering, mulching, chipping trails, and cleaning debris. You may also assist with planting and weeding. Tools used include but are not limited to: weed eater, blower, walk-behind mower, hand tools such as pruners, loopers, trowel, shovel, rake, mattock, rock bar, etc. Vehicles driven include John Deere Gators, Polaris ATVs, and golf carts.

Shifts will be between 6:30 am and 3 pm, Monday - Friday.

 

Qualifications:

You MUST be eligible for Federal Work Study. You also must have held a valid driver’s license for 2 years and be 19 or older. You must be available to work your shifts between 6:30 am and 3 pm, Monday-Friday.

 

Additional Posting Information:

Experience is helpful but not necessary.

 

Conditions of Employment:  

Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).

Students must have a 2.0 or better cumulative GPA.
