General Information:

The University Health Center (UHC) is accepting applications for an Athletic Training position to oversee care of Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) students, provide support and guidance to students recovering from concussion and facilitate student rehabilitation from injury upon referral of University Health Center providers. This position does not include the care of NCAA athletes.

The UHC provides a comprehensive array of health care services and health education programs to JMU students. Included in our health care services are several medical clinics, a pharmacy, a medical laboratory, and other programs that provide services for more than 30,000 patient encounters a year. UHC practices evidence-based medicine in a confidential, inclusive environment.

This is a 9-month, full-time position with a recurring rest period of May 10th - August 9th.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties include but are not limited to:
• Evaluation, clinical management, and treatment planning for students with acute injuries
• Primary clinical oversight for students participating in the JMU ROTC program
• Longitudinal oversight of concussion recovery; guidance and supervision for students engaged in activities and modalities related to rehabilitation
• Data collection and reporting regarding the treated population with analysis and recommendations
• Education regarding injury prevention
• Precepting Athletic Training students

To meet the needs of certain segments of the student population, there will be some required attendance outside of the conventional business hours of Monday-Friday 8AM-5PM.

 

Qualifications:

Required:
• Hold BOC certification
• Hold Athletic Trainer license in Virginia by start date
• BLS certification
• Strong interpersonal communications skills

Additional Considerations:
• Experience with Electronic Health Record documentation and reporting
• 2+ years of relevant clinical experience
• Prior military service
• Current Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or willingness to obtain certification within one (1) year
• Other certifications or training pertinent to the ROTC or general college student population (e.g., Tactical Strength and Conditioning Facilitator, suicide prevention training)
