General Information:

The James Madison University Office of State Government Relations is accepting applications for a temporary part time administrative assistant for additional support during the 2025 Legislative Session.

This is a temporary position. Candidate would be needed 15 hours per week from December 2 - 13, 2024 and would return after winter break starting January 2 through mid-March, 2025.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Supports office of State Government Relations during the 2025 Legislative Session by:

• Assisting in correspondence with General Assembly staff as directed by AVP or Associate Director
• Assisting with scheduling meetings with internal JMU stakeholders related to legislation and budget priorities
• Assisting with scheduling meetings with legislators, legislative staff, executive branch officials, agency staff, and other government officials as directed.
• Assisting in maintaining calendar of legislative meetings
• Assisting in creating and formatting agendas for key legislative visit dates
• Compiling background information on legislators, legislative staff, or other government officials as directed
• Assisting with thank you letters at the end of the legislative session
• Assisting with research related to legislation as needed
• Other administrative duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

Required:
• Working knowledge of standard office software including Microsoft Word and Excel
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to operate standard office equipment
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize work

Additional Considerations:
• Knowledge of or experience working with state government

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.
