General Information:

The Summer Assistant will provide support to the office by staffing the front desk, providing positive and professional customer service, assisting with processes such as annual registration for student organizations, supporting fall program planning, contributing to marketing efforts, and more. This role will allow the successful candidates to develop their skills in communication, customer service, organization, and teamwork.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist with the annual student organization registration process, including reviewing submissions and communicating with student organization leaders

Answer and direct phone calls, respond to general inquiries, and assist walk-in guests with questions about student organizations, leadership programs, campus involvement, etc.

Monitor and respond to messages sent to the two main office email accounts, ensuring timely, accurate, and professional communication

Draft and distribute summer newsletters to student organization leaders

Communicate regularly with student organizations and student leaders to share updates, reminders, and resources

Assist with marketing efforts for SLI, including content creation, social media support, and helping execute marketing strategies

Support planning and preparation for fall programs, including Back to School Bash

Participate in special projects and provide general office support as needed

Maintain a welcoming and organized office environment

Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and operations of the SLI office

 

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student at James Madison University for at least the Fall 2026 semester. The successful candidate will also demonstrate:

Customer service experience

Clear and professional communication skills (written and verbal)

Organizational skills, including managing tasks or deadlines

Experience using digital tools, such as email, shared documents, or communication platforms

Experience working in an office, team, or collaborative environment

Conditions of Employment:  

Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).
