General Information:

The Office of Alumni Relations is looking for a highly motivated student with strong knowledge and understanding of the digital media landscape, including various social media platforms. The student assistant must be detail-oriented, willing to work in a team atmosphere, and have the ability to be creative while working within the parameters of the JMU brand.
The Student Digital Communications Assistant must be available to work 12 hours per week (to be determined based on availability) between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, within the Leeolou Alumni Center.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist with drafting and scheduling content for official JMU Alumni social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.)
• Support website updates, including editing text, images, and event information
• Design and edit graphics, photos, and short videos for use across digital channels
• Track engagement metrics and help brainstorm strategies for audience growth and interaction
• Support email marketing projects, including proofreading and formatting content in email platforms
• Provide on-site support for alumni and student events (e.g., capturing photos, live posting)
• Perform other communications and office-related tasks as assigned

 

Qualifications:

• Current JMU student
• Must be enrolled in at least 6 credits
• Familiarity with social media platforms and trends
• Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
• Basic design or video editing experience preferred (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar)
• Knowledge of AP style and strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills
• Effective time management, task organization, and prioritization skills
• Able to work within the JMUAA brand and identify

Conditions of Employment:  

Students must be degree-seeking students, enrolled on at least a half-time basis (6 credits for undergraduate and 5 credits for graduate).
