General Information:
The Shenandoah Valley Child Development Clinic (SVCDC) is hiring for a Registered Nurse position. The SVCDC is an interdisciplinary clinic that has been providing services to children and families from birth to 21 years of age for more than 40 years. The clinic addresses concerns regarding education, behavior, health, emotions, development, and the parent-child relationship. We serve a broad range of clients that include foster children and high-risk families. Our primary goal is to ensure children receive the support and evaluation services needed to help them maximize their potential. The clinic’s hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
The Shenandoah Valley Child Development Clinic is one of many programs and clinics within the Institute for Innovation in Health and Human Services (IIHHS). IIHHS is a forward-thinking and dynamic organization that strives to cultivate a shared sense of purpose in building healthier and safer communities where all individuals can thrive and flourish. IIHHS is housed within JMU’s College of Health and Behavioral Studies (CHBS).
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Registered Nurse performs nursing assessments, which include obtaining a medical history, reviewing available medical records, and making appropriate health, wellness, and medical follow-up recommendations. These assessments may include both formal and informal evaluation techniques, participation in team staffings, and feedback sessions with parents. The RN works closely with the clinic's Nurse Practitioner to ensure medication components of the evaluations are thorough and completed efficiently. The RN may perform nursing assessments, assessing vital signs, vision, and hearing.
The Registered Nurse provides nursing expertise to parents/legal guardians and the clinic’s staff, helping to develop appropriate recommendations for child and family health needs. The Registered Nurse may assist in the supervision of nursing students and participate in the mentoring of students from other disciplines who are assigned to the clinic.
The Registered Nurse may also work closely with the clinic’s Nurse Practitioner to ensure the medical component of each evaluation is thorough and completed efficiently.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
• Registered Nurse Licensure in the state of Virginia
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Additional Considerations:
• Experience and/or knowledge of developmental issues and childhood behavioral and emotional disorders or experience working with children
• Demonstrated commitment to valuing a supportive, welcoming work environment
