General Information:

The Facilities Management Department at James Madison University is seeking a Power Plant Operator / Controls Technician for a Centralized Steam Generation/Chill Water Production Plant. The successful candidate must be available to work all shifts.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

•Providing skilled and effective operation, maintenance, repair, inspection, rebuilding of Power Plant steam generating, mechanical and related equipment
•Inspecting, repairing and maintenance of steam distribution systems.
•Providing technical support for all control devices within the plant.

 

Qualifications:

•Knowledge of all aspects of repair and maintenance procedures to power plant equipment such as boilers, chillers, pumps, VFD’s, valves, controls, 3 phase electric motors and steam distribution systems
•Working knowledge of applicable safety rules, regulations and procedures
•Ability to perform simple record keeping
•Working skills to include the use of hand and power tools
•Ability to set-up, configure, tune and troubleshoot control devices
•Ability to maintain and repair power plant and related equipment
•Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose a variety of mechanical problems
•Ability to read and interpret gauges, recorders, and monitoring equipment
•Availability to work a variety of required shift schedules
