General Information:

Facilities Management at James Madison University is accepting applicants for the Power Plant Operational Supervisor position. This position is responsible for skilled and effective supervision of personnel, operations, maintenance, repair, inspection, and rebuilding of steam generating and chill water production, mechanical, and related equipment. The successful candidate must be available to work all shifts.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Supervises and installs, modifies, overhauls, repairs, and maintains boilers and associated auxiliary equipment, steam distribution, and condensate return lines throughout the university
• Assists with Title V Permitting
• Tests and troubleshoots problem areas and inspects for defective/faulty equipment
• Utilizes safe practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations
• Provides effective supervision and communication to operational and maintenance staff.
• Supervises, trains, and teaches other employees
• Operates boilers/chillers and auxiliary equipment within designed parameters to ensure proper operation, efficiency, and safety of the plant

 

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
•Competitive candidates must possess proficient computer skills, be familiar with DEQ permitting regulations, and have successful supervisory skills as well as possess knowledge of all aspects of repair and maintenance procedures to power plant equipment such as: boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, valves, controls, steam traps, 3 phase electric motors and steam distribution systems
• In-depth knowledge of applicable safety rules, regulations, and procedures
•Working skills to include: Use of hand and power tools and diagnostic equipment
• Mechanical abilities including:
- maintaining and repairing power plant and related equipment;
- troubleshooting and diagnosing a variety of mechanical problems;
- ability to read and interpret gauges, recorders, and monitoring equipment
•Ability to preform complex record keeping tasks
•Valid drivers license
