General Information:

The Office of the Registrar at James Madison University is accepting applications for an Office Assistant. The Office Assistant will serve a vital role with the Office of the Registrar Veterans Benefits Team. We are recruiting for one part-time position. The position will be a year-round part-time position working an average of 29 hours per week over the course of a calendar year. Part-time employees are not eligible for benefits.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

-Assists the Veterans Benefits Team with all facets of processing benefits for qualified students according to the laws and policies that govern them.
-Provide customer service in-person, and through email and phone for students, faculty, staff, and parents
-Enter data in Veterans Affairs Enrollment Manager reporting system while ensuring data integrity, confidentiality, and accuracy
-Resolves problems independently, answers questions, and interprets and applies policies and procedures
-Performs back-up duties for other staff as needed
-Performs other duties with progress toward degree issues as assigned

The successful candidate will receive training to complete the School Certifying Official Certification.

 

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
-Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
-Exceptional attention to detail
-Customer service experience, including in-person, email, and phone
-Ability to organize, prioritize, and work independently

Additional Considerations:
-Knowledge of PeopleSoft Student Administration System; JMU General Education Program; university degree and major/minor requirements; The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act; and university policies and procedures are beneficial.

 

Additional Posting Information:

This is an in-person employment position with the potential for one day of remote work per week.

 

Conditions of Employment:  

Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.

This is a part-time wage position working up to an average of 29 hours per week over the course of a calendar year with no benefits.
