General Information:

James Madison University’s Facilities Management has an opening for a Locksmith Senior. This position will support and maintain a Great Grand Master Locking System that will give the greatest amount of security to all areas of JMU.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

•Duplicating and creating key bittings to operate a diverse number of locking devices
•Repairing of locking devices and related hardware
•Changing bitting requirements of locking devices
•Responding to emergency lockouts/ins of rooms, offices, equipment and vehicles
•Providing code system security and integrity
•Maintaining of files and records
•Conducting maintenance of shop equipment and work areas
•Taking courses offered by JMU’s Office of Information Technology when needed. This may include computer classes that aid in development of automated recordkeeping

 

Qualifications:

Required
•Knowledge of operations for a variety of locking systems, locks and related hardware
•Knowledge of space and depths requirement for a variety of lock manufacturers while keeping within the maximum and minimum bitting requirements
•Skilled in the use of key duplicating equipment, key code machine, extracting equipment, grinder, deburring tools and related lock service and repair equipment
•Having good manual dexterity
•Ability to temporarily work another shift based on business needs
•Ability to cover required rotating on call responsibilities
•Ability to demonstrate professionalism to promote positive customer service
•Valid Driver’s License
