General Information:

JMU Libraries seeks a Graduate Assistant (GA) to support work in JMU Libraries Employee Resources and Organizational Learning for the 2025-2026 academic year, beginning in August 2025 and ending May 2026.

This position works closely with the Libraries’ Employee Resource Coordinator, the Associate Dean for Libraries Administration, and collaborates with others throughout the Libraries (individuals & committees).

This position helps to support approximately 145 staff and faculty who work together to provide excellent library and educational technology services and expertise to our campus community.

The GA will work 20 hours per week, split between Moody Hall and Rose Library. The weekly schedule is flexible within a Monday-Friday, 8 am to 5 pm schedule and will be determined between the GA and the supervisor at the start of each semester.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist with recruitment, onboarding and orientation, compensation analysis, and other employee resource functions.

Maintain confidentiality for all assigned tasks.

Assist with learning program design, implementation, and revision.

Assist with program evaluation and needs assessments including creating surveys, facilitating focus groups, and analyzing qualitative & quantitative data.

Create and update existing spreadsheets and documents. Provide routine office assistance such as file management; copying, faxing, and scanning documents.

Develop visually interesting reports, presentations, and other documents.

Use technology including Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SharePoint, Qualtrics (survey systems).

Attend routine meetings as requested.

Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Expected acceptance into a graduate program.

Strong communication skills (verbal and written).

Ability to work independently and take initiative, as well as collaborate in a team environment.

Strong cultural competencies and a demonstrated commitment to understanding and engaging across the range of cultural experiences shared by a diverse workforce.

Critical thinking skills.

Time management skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Conditions of Employment:  

Students may apply to a graduate assistantship prior to being accepted into a graduate program. However, to be eligible to receive an assistantship upon entry into a graduate program, the following criteria must be met:

The student must be conditionally or unconditionally accepted into a graduate program. Students who are provisionally accepted will not be eligible until they achieve conditional or unconditional acceptance into their program.

The students must have an official transcript on file indicating completion of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution or agency

After receiving an assistantship, the student must maintain at least a 3.0 graduate GPA in order to retain or reapply for the assistantship.

These are minimum criteria. Graduate program coordinators have the right to impose additional criteria if they see fit.
