General Information:

James Madison University’s Facilities Management Department is accepting applications for an Integrated Waste Management Lead Tech in the Recycling Department. This is a day shift position with hours from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with varying days. The schedule may change during the summer, and overtime is required.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Serves as the team leader for recycling operations under the supervision of the Recycling Supervisor, overseeing daily tasks and coordinating team efforts.
• Distinguishes between and sorts various grades of recyclables.
• Trains and completes all recycling and ground litter routes as needed.
• Follows an assigned route to collect recyclable materials, reusable items, and waste from multiple locations across campus while serving as the team leader.
• Oversees Universal Waste management and assists with Hazardous Waste handling and disposal.
• Assists the supervisor with entering time on work orders.
• Maintaining all cardboard balers, ensuring equipment fluids are up to date, and keeping accurate records.
• Transports materials to various recycling facilities.
• Employee is required to work all home football games.
• The employee in this position will be considered designated, meaning the work performed is essential to university operations and the employee will be required to work during periods of authorized closings.

 

Qualifications:

Required:
• Ability to maneuver manual and automatic transmissions, step vans, 1.5-ton box trucks, moving vans, rear-load packer trucks, and alternatively fueled vehicles in close quarters.
• Ability to maintain and lubricate equipment.
• Ability to operate trash compactor, cardboard baler, forklift, conveyor belt and telehandler.
• Demonstrated ability to lift 30 – 80 pounds repeatedly throughout shift.
• Ability to safely operate vehicles.
• Ability to work independently and provide excellent customer service.
• Ability to distinguish between and sort different grades of recyclables, trash, and other items that could contain blood-borne pathogens.
• Familiar with universal waste and hazardous waste.
• Proven ability to lead teams and provide clear direction.
• Applicants must be at least 19 years old and possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 24 consecutive months.
• Must possess a valid CDL Class B Driver’s License upon hire.
