General Information:
Facilities Management at JMU is hiring for a Geospatial Damage Prevention Technician. This position is responsible for locating underground utilities, responding to VA811 tickets, and supporting the mapping, digitization and inspecting of utility infrastructure. This role combines fieldwork with GIS data management to ensure accurate utility records and safe excavation practices across campus and project sites
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assisting in Infrastructure Inspections which includes:
•Supporting infrastructure inspections
•Participating in field inspections of utility infrastructure
•Using GPS and GIS tools
•Assisting in identifying potential conflicts, hazards or discrepancies
•Collaborating with engineers, maintenance and project managers
•Developing inspection workflows and checklists
•Contributing to reports and documentations summarizing inspections
Serving as a GIS Technician which includes:
•Collecting spatial data using GPS equipment
•Digitizing utility features assets using ESRI suite
•Creating maps, web maps and web applications
•Assisting in planning and executing GPS mapping
•Maintaining records
Serving as a Virginia 811 utility locator for JMU underground utility services
Providing review of construction documents to ensure that proposed systems are compatible with existing systems
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
Extensive understanding of general construction procedures
Knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical building codes
General understanding of process used to develop construction plans and specifications
Experience with utility locating equipment and VA811 ticketing systems
Proficiency in GPS data collection and GIS software especially ESRI products
Having a general understanding of AutoCAD functions
Must have strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
Excellent communication and coordination skills
Advanced ability to use applicable electronic equipment
Exceptionally good organizational skills
Ability to temporarily work another shift and/or be on call based on business needs
Valid driver's license
