General Information:

JMU is currently accepting applications for a General Maintenance Senior Technician, This is a day shift position, generally 7:30am – 4:00pm with some scheduling flexibility.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

•Electrical duties to include: Installation, repair, removal and replacement of lighting fixtures; removal of ballasts and replacement with hard wired lighting; repair and maintenance of lighting in ceiling fans; replacement and testing of receptacles, light switches, lighting timers and motion detectors; work on emergency lighting circuits to include replacement of batteries and exit lights.
•Plumbing duties to include: Troubleshooting, repair, replacement and installation of various plumbing accessories; replacement of flush valves, vacuum seals, spuds, flush handles; replacement of faucets and supply lines; testing of and adding salt to water conditioners and/or softeners on campus; troubleshooting auto flushers on toilets
•Carpentry duties to include: Installation, repair, servicing and maintenance of a variety of ceiling, floor and wall surfaces; replacement of hinges and door knobs; repair of furniture in dorms to include desks, drawers, chairs, etc.; installation and repair of door closers; installation of pictures and shelving; replacement of ceiling grids and tiles.
•Fabrication, repair and maintenance of a variety of building fixtures consisting of wood, plastic and other materials.
•This position requires rotating on-call responsibilities and provides coverage for emergency maintenance calls during the shift.

 

Qualifications:

Required:
•Considerable knowledge of the building maintenance crafts and systems, doors, locks, other closures and hardware, plaster, paint, carpentry, masonry, floor surface maintenance and repair, furniture repair, plumbing and electrical and HVAC.
•Ability to make apprentice level electrical, carpentry, plumbing repairs and perform moderately difficult trades/utilities work.
•Ability to work independently and be self-motivated to take initiative.
•Ability to work well with others and communicate and motivate others.
•Ability to perform manual labor.
•A valid drivers license is required for this position. Must be at least 19 years of age and have held a valid drivers license for a minimum of 24 months.
