General Information:

James Madison University’s Facilities Management is seeking a Facilities Infrastructure Inspector to inspect campus infrastructure and underground utilities to determine condition and develop plans for necessary maintenance. The position will assist with physical inspections of all building systems and develop comprehensive plans that include identification and analysis of life cycle and facility condition assessments by reviewing all assets

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough inspections of all campus infrastructure and utility systems using pipe cameras and other associated equipment
  • Assess the condition of assets using industry best standards and practices and identify and document any issues, defects, or potential hazards
  • Collaborate with FM staff, engineers, and contractors to address and resolve identified issues
  • Utilize underground utility locating and GPS mapping equipment to locate and map campus infrastructure
  • Perform physical inspections of all building systems and components to determine material type, quantity, condition, and deferred maintenance status
  • Conduct life cycle assessments of building and infrastructure systems to support budget development, cost projections and resource efficiency and availability. This entails tracking of facility and infrastructure conditions, downtime costs, and maintenance and repair costs for rebuild/replace analysis
  • Estimate building and infrastructure systems and their requirement actions to ensure JMU has the potential to receive adequate funding for capital and maintenance reserve projects
  • Coordinate with the Geospatial Engineering Services group on developing maps and linking infrastructure and asset inspection information in the enterprise GIS and asset management system
  • Provide a variety of reports for supervisor and/or management as required

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Experience with underground locating and GPS mapping equipment
  • Experience working with enterprise Geographic Information Systems including ESRI ArcGIS
  • Extensive knowledge of underground utility systems and campus infrastructure components
  • Knowledge of agency organizational functions, planning cycles and systems; data collection and tracking techniques; interpretation of
  • Virginia uniform statewide building code
  • Working knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems
  • Knowledge of equipment life cycle and valuation process
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; analyze situations to draw conclusions, solutions, alternatives and recommendations; manage multiple assignments with critical deadlines
  • Experience with databases, Microsoft office, computerized management systems, and software package to track and maintain asset status
  • The ability to use all tools and software associated with condition assessments
  • Demonstrated customer service skills and the ability to communicate with a diverse group of individuals
  • Valid driver’s license
