General Information:

The Assistant Director for Residential Well-being serves as a member of the Well Dukes team, and is responsible for the on-going development, implementation, and assessment of the residential well-being experience. The position reports to the Director of Well Dukes while actively collaborating with other campus and community support services to assist with delivery of relevant population-based education and consultation.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist Student Affairs with strategic planning, implementation, and assessment of the JMU residential well-being experience that aligns with divisional and departmental mission, vision, and values
  • Build and maintain key partnerships with the Office of Residence Life and other campus experts to build a multi-disciplinary network to enhance the residential well-being experience.
  • Collaboratively develop holistic initiatives and services involving the JMU Model of Well-being dimensions: Purpose, Learning, Environment, Relationships, Health, and Security.
  • Support campus-wide initiatives of a Health Promoting Campus.
  • Recruit, hire, orient, and supervise relevant staff.
  • Oversee administrative functions which support residential well-being including scheduling, tracking, and reporting of initiatives and participants.
  • Manage financial resources of assigned initiatives, assuring those fiscal operations are consistent with good practice and university/state policy.
  • Contribute to Student Affairs equity and inclusion value by designing intentional and inclusive practices, policies, and services.

 

Qualifications:

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • A minimum of two years in a progressively responsible experience in a relevant setting with includes some supervisory and training experience
  • Basic knowledge of current and emerging college student well-being needs and trends, environmental management/prevention strategies, health behavior change theories and ecological framework, and evidence-based practice
  • Experience in learning-based outcome development and assessment
  • Ability to stay current on developments in the field of public health, health promotion, peer health education, and college health
  • Ability to strategically and creatively manage a wide range of projects, and to work quickly and effectively on deadline projects
  • Proven ability to effectively collaborate with other entities to develop shared outcomes for well-being
  • Ability to work successfully with a diverse community and provide inclusive services
  • Ability to ensure compliance with regulation and legal requirements

Preferred Experience

  • Master’s degree in relevant field
  • Master Certified Health Education Specialist (MCHES), Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Certified in Public Health (CPH), or eligible and intent to become certified
  • A minimum of four years in a progressively responsible experience in a relevant setting which includes some supervisory and training experience
  • Experience working in a higher education setting
  • Demonstrated application of using evidence-informed health promotion programs/initiatives (use of health promotion, behavior change, and population-based theories and models)
  • Experience working on coalitions or collaborating with individuals and organizations
  • Experience managing a programmatic budget and overseeing fiscal responsibilities
